Meet John.
With over 25 years of experience, John A. Llauget has a proven track record of walking with his clients through life's challenges - both big and small.
With a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Stephen F. Austin State University and an Educational Specialist Degree in Counseling from the University of South Florida, John began his career in mental health in 1977 working in a psychiatric hospital; and later as a outpatient therapist in a community mental health center working with children, adolescents, families, and adults.
Since 1986, John has worked in the Florida mental health field, serving in various roles such as: licensed outpatient therapist for a community mental health center, employee assistance counselor, school counselor, associate professor at an international university, and court evaluator for guardianship cases. Additionally, he has worked as a cancer counselor with oncology clients, helping them cope with illness, stress, and emotional distress.
Outside of his 'traditional roles' in the field, John also practices Traditional Okinawan Uechi-Ryu, earning a Masters rank in that system of training. He has integrated martial training into his therapy - helping children & adolescents to develop self-control and self esteem. He also teaches Qigong and Mindfulness Meditation to his clients, using these tools as a way to improve health, well-being, and cope with stress.
John's therapeutic style centers around getting to know a client, developing trust, and talking more explicitly about issues before making any recommendations. He is a strong advocate of evidence-based treatments and teaching ‘tools’ to cope with stress and emotional difficulties. He has completed training in trauma treatment because we now know that it is prevalent in our life experiences.
Regardless of what you're going through, John brings compassion, persistence, and patience to all of his therapeutic interactions and would be honored to work with you.

Anonymous Client Review:
"I have worked with many counselors over my lifetime and can wholeheartedly attest that BetterHelp matched me with someone who was correctly aligned with my needs. John is sincere, present, and mindful and we easily connected. His demeanor allowed us to have a space of mutual respect and honest conversation. John heard "me" and carefully listened to all I needed to get out of my head. With John's guidance, I learned how to identify the "habit-loop" I've been in for decades and reframed how I perceived success and failure. We got to the root of "why do I self-sabotage", "why do I (fill in the blank)" and transitioned to "how do I implement safe-guards and the new skills I've learned into my every day life". John made it clear that I was the one that did the work. My transformation into the person I've become was due to the effort and dedication that I put into it. Not only is John a sincere and authentic counselor, he is a human being dedicated to doing his part to improve humanity one person at a time."
